My love affair with Norfolk producers......

After a life overseas within Private households, I found myself back home in Norfolk in 2012. At this time, I was working in London and commuting on a daily basis - eventually, the travelling and insanely long days were unsustainable and enough was enough.

So I looked around Norfolk to see what would tick all my boxes and finally on my own doorstep in Cromer, I found The Grove. I was asked to take on the kitchen by the family who owned the business and had been running it as a bed and breakfast since 1936 and had recently opened a restaurant. Within 7months of taking over as Executive Chef, I ensured our main focus was using the most local produce. We grew produce in our own gardens and used meat from local award winning butcher Icarus Hines, fish from my Coxain from RNLI Cromer, John Davies, rapeseed oil from Crush Foods and the list goes on.  All of our produce was from within a 20 mile radius of the business. This culminated in The Grove being awarded two straight AA Rosettes and I was honoured with the prestigious position of Norfolk Food & Drink Festival Champion to continue to promote all that is amazing about Norfolk’s farmers, producers, cheese makers, etc

And so my love affair with Nurtured in Norfolk began.  After meeting Alan and the team you really do realise this is a family business. With a passion for quality, amazing consistency in all they produce whether its lemon balm to dress my foraged berry pudding or Red Amaranth that I’ve found if you painstakingly crystallize it brings a whole new taste emporium to the palate, and as a chef it’s so fabulous to actually be able to visit my heroes who produce the best that Norfolk has to offer.

In June 2014, I was then offered an Executive Chef position by The Great Hospital in Bishopgate, Norwich. This amazing establishment dates back to 1249 and is a care community and an events venue with a history and beauty unrivalled in the city, standing in the shadows of Norwich Cathedral.  As a place that delights in its ethos and care, its medieval and beautiful new buildings hold a very special place for our residents and visitors alike.
